PRESENTATION EVENING January 28th 2012
MDSC held it’s annual presentation evening on Saturday evening at Tern Hill Hall Hotel.  What a super evening, lovely venue and great food.  It was great to see all the swimmers dressed in their finery (parents too!) and it is, as always, fantastic to be able to celebrate the success of the swimmers both throughout the year and their achievements during club championships.

Thanks in particular should go to both Lorraine Vine and Sian Brannon for all the hard work in organising the evening, purchasing thank you gifts and selecting such a super venue,  Louise Derricutt for producing and selling all the tickets (they were so professional), Jane Morris for ordering and sourcing the medals and keep sake trophies and to the rest of the committee who helped in collating the medals ready for the night (thanks to Louise D for being so organised and producing labels and tags ready to tie the medals together).

Thanks also to Don Redfern (Leda’s dad) for taking the pictures during the evening which should be available shortly and will be on the web site as soon as possible. All in all a very successful evening – here’s looking ahead to next year’s!   Debs

January newsletter now available - also added some of the old newsletters from 2006 & 2005 and updated the Qualifiers page for any aspiring swimmers who get Midland or National times at Counties.

Final PB chart update for 2011 has been added.

New Treasurer - 5th December 2011

We are very pleased to announce that we have a new treasurer, Sue Trimboy. A big welcome and thank you to Sue for taking on this crucial club role, without a treasurer the club would have been forced to close as it is such a vital post. Sue will be working closely with our outgoing treasurer Debbie Grindrod to ensure a smooth transition of the role.

Debbie Grindrod has been with the club for an amazing 8 years and will be missed by all the committee who value her knowledge and professionalism enormously. Anyone who has benefited from Debbie’s help over the years would agree that she has been a fantastic treasurer and brilliant club advocate. Thank you Debbie on behalf of the committee and the club, what a star you are.

Club Championships - Phew…...another hectic Club Championships successfully completed.

The Club Champs culminated on Sunday 13th November with the majority of our club swimmers competing. Unfortunately we were without the electronic timing due to technical problems so had to run the gala with manual timing. This achieved the same result but did mean the events took slightly longer to get through. There were some excellent performances on the day, in particular from our younger swimmers who were facing their very first gala. I hope they all enjoyed the occasion.

The full results and times will be available from the website should you wish to see how you did. Worthy of particular mention are those swimmers who all achieved County times, Holly Blanks, Lowri Morris and Izzy Trimboy for the first time in the 200m Breaststroke. Emma Scriven in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle, Emma also set a new club record in the 14 year old girls 100m IM. Katie Deakin also set a new club record for the 13 year old girls 200m Butterfly.

The boys did well too, Ed Saxon achieving County times in 100m and 200m Breaststroke, the 200m IM, the 100m Backstroke. Rob Wenlock in the 50 and 100m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and Jack Booth in the 50m and 100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly.

Lots of thanks go to everyone who helped out over the two weeks of running the events; this is really appreciated as without this help we would not be able to run the championships.

The medals and trophies achieved in the Club Championships will be presented to swimmers at the annual presentation evening in January. The medals are funded from the individual event entry fee and the contribution parents make by paying an entrance fee on the final Sunday. Unfortunately the costs of running a gala are quite high, when we factor in the cost of hiring the pool for 3 hours and then add on the awards for swimmers, we have to charge to fund the event. Fortunately the officials who come to judge and referee the galas do this on a voluntary basis so we manage to keep costs to a minimum.

Thank you all for contributing and making the Club Champs so successful for all the swimmers.
