Competition to design an advertising car sticker for the MDSC! .....thanks to Emma Scriven for the idea.

Your design needs to be 160mm x 60mm (oblong), white background using black writing. You must include the club logo (MD) and also the web site address (www.mdswimclub.co.uk). Any other phrases or pictures must be able to be re-produced electronically so it is best to do your design on a computer if possible. SHROPSHIRE COUNTIES SPRINTS WEEKEND - FINAL ROUNDUP
Sunday 6th July saw the sprints weekend taking place at Market Drayton pool. It was a very warm and humid day with a very busy schedule to follow.  Our club swimmers performed outstandingly and between them massed An incredible 43 PBs.  Thanks must go to Catherine and our team manager, Sarah Thomas ably assisted by Hannah Grindrod who rallied the swimmers together and made sure they were all in the right place at the right time.  Also thanks to Anne Saxon who turned up with some lovely cakes and fruit for the adults to help get them through the day!

MDSC did well and had swimmers in the final top 2 of several age groups.  The final age group placing were as follows:

Top Boy 17 and over – Ian Martin, 2nd in 16yr Girls – Caroline Saxon, 2nd in 15yr Boys – James Wilson, 2nd in 14 yr Boys – Dan Scriven, Top Boy in 13yr old – Jaime Beebee and 2nd Tom Plows, 2nd in 9yr old Boys – Alfie Thomas.

Land Training Summer Break - Clyde Till is away on holiday from 2nd July through to 16th July and then we break for the summer. Land Training resumes Wednesday 17th September 2008.

THREE COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIPS
The three counties championships took place on Saturday 28th June at Thomas Telford School pool, following success at the secondary schools gala the following swimmers were selected to swim representing Shropshire, Daniel Scriven, Richard Grindrod, Jamie Beebee, Craig Judd and James Wilson. Shropshire put in some sterling swims and won the gala with a total of 161 points against Hereford with 125 points. Debs

North Shropshire East Junior Schools Gala
Well done to all of those club swimmers who took part in the North Shropshire East Junior Schools Gala held at Market Drayton pool on Friday 20th June. Megan Costelloe, Katie Nagington, Emma Scriven, Phoebe Tustin, Hannah Lever, Charlotte Chapman and Toby Cordova all put in impressive swims. Toby came 2nd in the boys 25m fly final with a time of 25.35 and he came 3rd in the boys 25m breast final with a time of 25.84. Emma Scriven was 1st in the girls 25m back final with a time of 18.78 (a new meet record) and 2nd in the girls 25m breast final with a time of 20.63 (would have been a new meet record but was superseded by the 1st place swimmer). Both Toby and Emma have been selected to swim for the North Shropshire East team at the gala being held in Shrewsbury next month - well done to everyone who took part.

Midlands Age Group Championships 2008 14th & 15th June.
Tom Plows was the first up to swim in the second weekend of the Championships. His first event being the 400IM. Tom put in a solid performance finishing with 5:32:73 (conv 5:27:43). Next to swim was Daniel Scriven in his best event the 100BR. Dan put in a great performance with a terrific 3rd place Medal and PB in a time of 1:16:02 (conv 1:14:32). Great swim Dan.

James Cook swam a good 200BK with a time of 3:11:56 (conv 3:09:86). Emma Scriven's next swim was the 200IM finishing with a time of 3:19:42 (conv 3:17:42). Jamie Beebee and Tom Plows again went 'head to head' in the 200 Free. Great race again with Tom just pippin Jamie this time to the finish. Tom finishing with a time of 2:20:36 (conv 2:17:96) and Jamie 2:20:75 (conv 2:18:35) both times just outside their PB's.

Emma Scriven was back in the water again in the 100Free. Emma although understandably tiring at this point put in a great swim with a new PB of 1:22:33 (conv 1:21:33). Well done Emma.

In the last afternoon session James Cook swam a PB in the 100 Free in a time of 1:17:50 (conv 1:16:40). In the very last swim for Market Drayton the 400 Free it was again that 'star' Emma Scriven. Emma swam in a time of 5:53:22 (conv 5:49:22). This was outside Emma's PB but to me to qualify and compete at this distance in a 50M pool at just 10yrs old was again a great achievement.

The championships were a great success for Market Drayton. Drayton had more swimmers in more events than most of our local clubs. Also it should be noted that we appear to have had a PB in every 100M event we swam! This is something the swimmers can be proud of. With a little more pool time and some extra hard training in the future I hope we can be more successful over the longer distances next year.

Well Done. Kevin.

PB's have been updated - 12 June 2008

Congratulations to the following swimmers who have achieved their Preliminary and Competitive Start Awards - Kathryn Jones, Alice Plows, Shona Duncan, Rebecca Deakin, Francis Derricutt, Matthew Poultney, Annabel Cook, James Cook, Freya Wright, Holly Guy, Edward Saxon, Joshua Poultney.

Time Trials results from 12th June - See the notice board or click here

Midland 2008 Age Group Championships - 7th/8th June Coventry.
Well done to the swimmers who qualified and entered the first weekend of the Championships at Coventry. First to swim was Emma Scriven in the 200Free. Emma put in a great swim just outside her PB with 2:47:59 (conv 2:45:59). Next to swim was Jamie Beebee in the 1500M who found this a tough swim finishing outside his pb, but well done for qualifying and having a go. On the second day James Cook put in a great swim for the 200 Free finishing 2:53:85 (conv 2:51:95). James also swam the 100BK shortly after with a cracking pb of 1:30:54 (conv 1:29:64). Later in the day Emma Scriven put in a huge brave effort in the 400IM finishing 12th with a time of 7:04:76 (conv 7:00:66). Next up was Jamie Beebee and Rob Wenlock in the 100 Free. Jamie got a great pb of 1:03:35 (conv 1:02:15) followed by Rob also with a PB of 1:00:60 (conv 0:59:20).

Well done again and thanks for contributing to another successful event for Market Drayton.

Thanks. Debs

Counties and the 50m & 100m events - we have just been informed that these will now be run on Sunday July 6th, however any withdrawals have to be submitted by 1st June. You will only be entitled to repayment of your Counties entry fees for these events if you withdraw.

Therefore you will remain entered UNLESS YOU either tick the withdrawal list on the notice board OR let Debbie Grindrod know directly by the 30th May. Emails can be sent to her via the webmaster.

Apologies for the short notice but the club was only informed by County on the 23rd May.

Open Water Race - Congratulations to Caroline Saxon who took part in the senior 4k race at Colwick Park, Notts and regained her trophy for the 3rd consecutive year. There were 30 senior competitors, both males and females setting off together in a water temperature of 15 degrees. It was certainly very bracing and Caroline had a slightly blue tinge around the edge when she finished!

The course consisted of 4 circuits around the lake, marked out by buoys that have to be carefully negotiated, and the technique of swimming outdoors needs to be heavily reliant upon brute force whilst ignoring the smooth streamlined frontcrawl needed in a pool. Caroline was concerned she was not fit enough to swim a fast pace over the distance but surprised herself by beating not only the women but the men as well, achieving a time of 51 minutes.

Thanks Kevin.

New Hoodies have arrived!

Brief report on Crusader - 26 April
Well done and thank you to all the swimmers, helpers and officials (especially Mrs Rumney for stepping in as 'our' Judge at the last minute) who attended the Crusader gala at Dane Valley. With our 9yr olds at the lower end of their age group and having to support the gaps in the 12U age group points were again scarce. However, with some great relay attempts -a few DQ's - I am certain the younger teams we will be better placed in the future. We eventually came last in the gala. There were still great personal performances with an incredibly 18 PB's. Check web site for updated PB tables to follow. Special well done to Rob Wenlock who ploughed through the 1 min Barrier with 59.13 in the 100Free. If we continue to improve we will do well in our home Crusader gala and the Speedo rounds later in the year. Thanks all.

Kevin

New Open swimmer to join the club?
Daniel Scriven with Richard and Ian at the 9th FINA Short Course Championships... and Mark Foster just after his 50m Butterfly final.

They had gone for the afternoon session on the 4th day as part of Daniel's Birthday - a great end to a great days racing.

Justin did try to sign him up for the next Crusader at Dane Valley in a couple of weeks, but the lure of his home base in Florida was just too great!
