National Times:Dan at the Nationals
Dan qualified for nationals in 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.11.63 long course, and nervously awaited the trip to Sheffield. He swam well, after having a slow start, finishing in a time of 1.11.57, achieving a pb despite all the nerves! He moved up 9 places, finishing 101st out of 110 nationally in all

Welsh Summer Nationals.
Dan and Emma headed to Swansea (50m pool) for the Welsh summer nationals at the end of July. Dan achieved a time of 2.40.50 for 200m breaststroke in the heats and went faster in the final (2.39.31) to win the gold medal by 6 seconds. Dan swam 200IM in a time of 2.27.20 in the heats and 2.28.07 in the final, finishing in 8th place. He also swam the 100m Back in 1.07.64, and 200m free in 2.12.34.

Emma swam in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 3.22.24, and the 100m free in 1.14.56. Emma also swam in the 100m breast stroke 1.35.57, being touched out into 9th place (a reserve finalist , but as all the finalists turned up for the final, didn’t get the chance to improve on her time).

BILL FURNISS technique training session went very well and most swimmers and coaches felt they had picked something up to take away for incorporation into future training. Remember Bill's comment, " Practice makes permanent and perfect practice makes perfect permanent!".

Dan at the Scottish Nationals
The Scriven family set off on Thursday morning for 2 days of competition in Glasgow along with the British hopefuls for the Swimming World Championships to be held in Rome. Dan was swimming on Friday and Saturday, so the Thursday night finals were used to recce the venue and check out the competition! Friday morning’s heats came, and sharing the warm-up with the British seniors was a daunting prospect, however, the race came late in the morning and Daniel swam well in the 50m breast, finishing 41st overall in a time of 32.68LC, just outside PB – Dan was entered at 42nd so a good result!
Friday night’s finals passed, with some fabulous swims (Gemma Spofforth with a new 200m back British record and Rebecca Adlington/Jo Jackson with the 3rd/4th fastest 800m swims in history).

Saturday came, with a full warm-up again. The 100m breast was earlier in the program, and this time Dan swam very well, setting a new PB of 1:11.52, (splitting at 32.69) – in the race, Dan was ahead until 75m and monopolised the commentary until that point (video of race here on youtube)! Dan finished 42nd overall (he was entered at 48th) for a great finish to the competition.

GOOD LUCK to Dan Scriven who travels to Scotland on Thursday (25th June) to take part in the Scottish Nationals - we all wish you the very best Dan.

Youth Midlands 2009
Saturday 2nd May
Well done to Caroline, Dan and Rob for a successful Midlands 2009. The day started well with Dan claiming third place for the 15/16 50m breast final in 32.80 (31.80 s/c and new PB). The 100m back followed in 1:09.44 (1:08.14 s/c) and then making the 15/16 200 breast final in 2:46.24 (2:43.04 s/c) in eighth place. Rob had a good race in his 100m free (in the dreaded Coventry lane 8 over the diving pit), but came back with a time of 59.72 (58.22 s/c) and setting a new PB. Caroline followed Rob in the ladies 50m freestyle, finishing in 30.63 (29.93 s/c) - this is likely to be Caroline's last Midland's so she was pleased to have got to compete in spite of the back injury she has carried this season reducing her training and hence race fitness.

The 50m breaststroke final was a close race, with Dan racing Richard Spoor (City of Birmingham) stroke for stroke, but finally being touched out at the finish for silver in a new PB of 32.63 (31.63 s/c - the winning margin was 0.01!!). Dan followed this with eighth place in the 200m breast final in an improved time of 2:45.53 (2:42.33 s/c).

Sunday 3rd May
Sunday continued where Saturday left off for Dan, qualifying for the 100m 15/16 breaststroke final in 2nd place with a new PB (and improved national qualifying time) of 1:11.63 (1:09.73 s/c). 200m free followed in 2:16.55 (2:13.85 s/c), qualification for the 15/16 50m back final in 32.76 (32.16 s/c) and then 200IM in 2:28.88 (2:26.18 s/c). Caroline followed in the ladies 100m free finishing in 1:06.09 (1:04.79 s/c). Rob finished the morning off in style, with a stunning 27.39 (26.60 s/c) in the 50m free, setting a brilliant new PB!!

Dan took a well deserved silver medal in the 100m breast final, his time slightly slower at 1:11.94 (1:10.04 s/c), but beating 2 of his national rivals in the process!! The 50m back final saw Dan go quicker than the morning at 32.58 (31.88 s/c) and finishing in 5th place.

Thanks to the swimmers (Dan & Rob pictured right) for a great weekends racing!

Well done to Toby Cordova who have been promoted to Juniors from Marlins.

Hoodies - latest order arrived, see Debbie to collect

As some of you may already be aware, Catherine Wilson will be leaving us on the 14th February to take up the opportunity of running the swimming school which currently operates at the Shrewsbury pool.  We are sure you would all like to join us in passing on our thanks and very best wishes to Catherine for all the work she has contributed to the club over the last 7 years or so.  The committee are currently seeking to appoint a new assistant coach to cover the hours that Catherine works at the club in order to minimise the disruption to the squad training sessions.

Also our head coach Kevin Bundy is seeking to step down from his role as Head Coach to assistant coach at the beginning of  the summer (or before if we are able to appoint a replacement).  Kevin runs his own business and unlike lots of small businesses his is extremely busy and he now finds he is unable to give the full commitment that is required to be Head Coach. Kevin will be staying on with us and working closely with the Marlins.

Crusader Team list now on notice board for the 2nd gala being held at Crewe Flyers on Saturday 14th February.  Full directions to where to find the pool are on the notice board - remember it is a 33.3yd pool so three lengths makes 100m!!  Please make sure you tick your name if you are available and let Kevin know if you are not free.  Thanks.

Crusader League Round 1 Report
Well done to all the swimmers that swam in our first round at the Fenton Pool last Saturday.  Market Drayton eventually finished in fourth place just a few points behind Buxton and Whitchurch. As always, there were some great individual swims. Many of the relay teams were made up of new swimmers, again with some great team efforts.  The PB’s will be updated shortly.

A special thanks to the many new swimmers and parents that attended, some for just one swim. Please note that next team selection will be tough, based around our top swimmers.   So please train hard and attend as many sessions as possible to earn your place in the next gala on Feb14th.
Thanks Kevin
