EGM 25th October at 6.30pm in the Festival Drayton Centre

PB's for September added

NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - to be held at 6pm on Monday 8th October 2012 at Festival Drayton Centre.

The current Executive Committee, Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Welfare Officer will not be standing for re-election this year and urgent nominations for the election of members to these key positions on the committee are sought. Any nominee should indicate in writing to the Secretary of the Club their willingness to stand for election.

As a committee run Club we cannot operate without these key Executive Officer posts. This leaves the Club in a very vulnerable position and without volunteers to take on these roles we will have to face the unpalatable option of closing the Club.

Please give serious thought to standing for one of these posts, the Club depends on parent volunteers to run successfully and any person taking on one of these roles will be given assistance by the outgoing Executive Committee.

Please feel free to come and speak to any of the current committee if you would like to know more about what is involved.

MARKET DRAYTON POOL RE-OPENS ON WEDNESDAY 6TH JUNE
We have now had confirmation from the Swimming Centre that Market Drayton Swimming Pool will re-open on Wednesday 6th June. The club session times remain unchanged and the Wednesday session is 5pm until 6pm.

Thank you all for your patience during this enforced closure, now begins the hard work to get the swimmers back to total swim fitness.

Now we have an official return date we can get busy issuing all refunds by cheque and can all return to normal.

Look forward to seeing you all next week!

CRUSADER LEAGUE ROUND 4 - BUXTON
For those swimming in this gala the pool will be available from 3.50 p.m. for a 4.00 p.m. start. Warm-up for 30 minutes, then competition starts at 4.30 p.m. Pool address is:- Buxton Swimming Pool, St Johns Rd, Buxton SK17 6BE

There is limited spectator seating at the refurbished pool. There are a maximum of 45 seats on poolside. There is then another area where a limited number of spectators can sit but the seats are orientated towards the learner pool. You would have to stand in this area to view the gala. There is also an aerobics studio at first floor level that overlooks the pool. We can't have seating in this area on account of the floor surface, but spectators are welcome to stand and view the gala. So, 45 spectators seated in relative comfort and some options for others to stand and observe.

Buxton Swimming Club do, however, intend to operate entry on a first come first served basis, so there is chance that some parents might miss out if other Clubs arriving earlier attend with larger numbers of spectators.

As there is limited space on poolside, Buxton SC would be grateful if swimmers could use the lockers provided (£1 coin needed to operate lockers).

WARNING - DO NOT park in the lower deck of the 2-storey car park. The lower deck is locked at 6 p.m., and you will not get your car back until the following morning!! The upper deck is fine, as is the outside part of the car park at ground level.

TRENTHAM POOL SESSION SATURDAY 26TH MAY 3 - 5PM
We have booked the pool at Trentham High School, Allerton Road, Trentham, Stoke on Trent ST4 8PQ.

The session is Saturday 26th May and the cost is £2.50 per hour.

POOL CLOSURE UPDATE
We have been informed by the Swimming Centre Mangement that the pool will be totally closed until further notice due to major repair works.

Shropshire Council spokesman Laura Owen said on Friday 13th: “We are confident that we will be able to estimate an opening date early next week. No further problems have been found, it is just a process of elimination to find the exact location of the leak.”

We will wait to see if such a date in forthcoming.

ALERNATIVE SWIM SESSIONS
In addition to the Wellington weekend sessions we have now managed to secure some additional swim hours for the Easter Holidays at Trentham High School, Allerton Road, Trentham, Stoke on Trent ST4 8PQ.

Thursday 5th April 5-7pm --- Tuesday 10th April 4-6pm --- Wednesday 11th April 5-6pm --- Thursday 12th April 5-7pm

If the pool has still not re-opened after Easter the times for the sessions will be:

Monday 16th from 7pm --- Tuesday  17th from 8pm --- Friday 20th from 7pm

Payment will be £2.50 per hour, payable on the day.

EXTENDED POOL CLOSURE
As you are aware the main pool at the swimming centre has been closed since 12th March 2012 to enable essential maintenance to be carried out. The swimming centre originally hoped to re-open the pool on Monday 26th March, when we could resume our normal squad timetable.  Unfortunately due to the nature of the repairs that need to be carried out the swimming centre cannot confirm for definite when the main pool will re-open.

The short notice of the initial closure and the delay in re-opening the pool has made finding suitable alternative sessions at other pools very difficult.  We have now secured some weekend swimming sessions at the newly refurbished pool at Wellington for the following dates:-

Sun 15th April 4-5pm all 6 lanes ------ Sat 21st April 4-6pm all 6 lanes ------- Sun 22nd April 4-5pm all 6 lanes

Swimming fee refunds for the period of the closure will be made to all parents/carers once we know how long the pool will be closed for, this refund will be made to you by cheque once we have a confirmed re-opening date. For swimmers using the sessions at Wellington there will be a charge of £2.50 per hour payable on the day.

Thank you for your patience during this enforced closure we hope that the delay is kept to a minimum and that we will be back to our full swimming timetable as soon as possible.

PRESENTATION EVENING January 28th 2012
MDSC held it’s annual presentation evening on Saturday evening at Tern Hill Hall Hotel.  What a super evening, lovely venue and great food.  It was great to see all the swimmers dressed in their finery (parents too!) and it is, as always, fantastic to be able to celebrate the success of the swimmers both throughout the year and their achievements during club championships.

Thanks in particular should go to both Lorraine Vine and Sian Brannon for all the hard work in organising the evening, purchasing thank you gifts and selecting such a super venue,  Louise Derricutt for producing and selling all the tickets (they were so professional), Jane Morris for ordering and sourcing the medals and keep sake trophies and to the rest of the committee who helped in collating the medals ready for the night (thanks to Louise D for being so organised and producing labels and tags ready to tie the medals together).

Thanks also to Don Redfern (Leda’s dad) for taking the pictures during the evening which should be available shortly and will be on the web site as soon as possible. All in all a very successful evening – here’s looking ahead to next year’s!   Debs

January newsletter now available - also added some of the old newsletters from 2006 & 2005 and updated the Qualifiers page for any aspiring swimmers who get Midland or National times at Counties.

Final PB chart update for 2011 has been added.

New Treasurer - 5th December 2011

We are very pleased to announce that we have a new treasurer, Sue Trimboy. A big welcome and thank you to Sue for taking on this crucial club role, without a treasurer the club would have been forced to close as it is such a vital post. Sue will be working closely with our outgoing treasurer Debbie Grindrod to ensure a smooth transition of the role.

Debbie Grindrod has been with the club for an amazing 8 years and will be missed by all the committee who value her knowledge and professionalism enormously. Anyone who has benefited from Debbie’s help over the years would agree that she has been a fantastic treasurer and brilliant club advocate. Thank you Debbie on behalf of the committee and the club, what a star you are.
